Was trying to find a cafe for a late night supper and managed to find a Hong Kong styled cafe, Gossip Cafe 港是讲啡 in Serangoon Gardens that operates till 2.00am daily. Like most Hong Kong styled cafe in Singapore, their cafe was also beautifully decorated with tons of pictures of Old Hong Kong streets.

I browsed through their menu and saw a wide range of food items, most of them are inspired from Hong Kong cuisine, such as Baked Rice, Spaghetti, Pork Chop Platter rice and reasonably priced. Their burgers were however rather interesting though as they were named after the different areas in Hong Kong, e.g Central Beef Burger, Causeway Bay Mini Pork Burger. If I am not wrong, the food items should be available till late as well.

Because it was too late at night, I decided to opt in for a dessert instead. I ordered the Chilled Gingko Barley ($3.50).

It was served in a gorgeous bowl and was chilled just nice. The taste of the dessert was excellent as well, it was thick and you can chew the barley seeds in mouth unlike some other dessert stalls out there which served Gingko Barley that was mushy.

I am happy with their service as well and am definitely looking to make another trip back to the cafe to taste their food items. If you are looking for a quiet and comfortable place for dessert, don't hesitate further!

Good news for all Krispy Kreme doughnuts lover, the American doughnut franchise have announced that it will open its first Singapore outlet!

Posted on their official Singapore Krispy Kreme facebook page on 29 July 2013, the shop will be open at Tangs Orchard in mid-October.

According to TODAYonline, as part of its pre-opening “donut bomb” tradition, the outlet will be giving away 100,000 doughnuts in public areas and offices in the forty-five days period leading up to the launch of its outlet. (well, it seems like there is something for all Singaporeans to go queue again!)

Visited Saizeriya at The Cathay a few weeks back (in fact, this was my second trip to the restaurant, my first was the one in Liang Court), both trips were just a huge disappointing.

Saizeriya is a Japanese chain of casual low-priced Italian Restaurants which was well known for their affordable food. After reading tons of positive reviews on different blogs, when I first tried Saizeriya at Liang Court, I was not very impressed with their food.
Certain servings of food were cold, while others were still pretty alright.

Back to my experience at The Cathay, I placed an order for a tomato spaghetti with baby clams. The food came and it tasted fine, actually even better than the first one I had at the Liang Court outlet. However, I soon found out that the bottle of tabasco sauce provided might be expired (the date printed on the bottle neck was dated back to January, 2013. At that point of time, I didn't really google and find out that the date was actually the production date and that the expiry date were I think a few years after the production date because the label on the bottle itself stated that the expiry date was printed on the bottleneck!)

I immediately pointed the issue out to a waitress whom came back and told me in an impolite way that the manager said it was the production date. After she left, I was quite certain that I was right about the expiry date, so I asked her over for the second time. Upon hearing my feedback, she walked away and didn't bother to return to my table for any further explanation. Thereafter, I requested to speak to the store manager. I mean, even if the customer was wrong, shouldn't the service crew sincerely apologise and speak in a better tone that the supplier had already informed the restaurant that the printed date on the bottle neck was the production date. The date was printed there so that we could add on 5 years to the sauce to know it's expiration date.

The store manager came a few moment later and his attitude was equally atrocious. He said in an really unwilling tone: "I have no time to answer you okay! It is the production date". And he walked away, back into his kitchen.

Overall, I am extremely upset with this kind of service in a restaurant and I don't think I will ever step back into this particular food chain again.

As food bloggers, I am aware that we should only post positive food reviews and not to target at any individual. However, like what my blog tagline states: "honest opinions of cafes & restaurants around Singapore", I would certainly leave my best and upmost honest reviews of all restaurants. I strongly believe that all F&B outlets should definitely practice good service for diners to enjoy their meals there.

The Fabulous Baker Boy is located opposite Liang Court, just along the foot of Fort Canning Park. It was in fact not too difficult to get there by public transport, and if you are lucky, several buses actually stop along The Foothills @ Fort Canning Park.

They offer a huge variety of food genres ranging from sandwiches, pies, pancakes, salad to the most important and ever-delicious, cakes.

Something to note though, they do not bake all types of cakes every single day and several days, if you are unlucky, their cakes would have all been sold out. I have read from many food blogs that their Red Velvet Cake was one of the better cakes compared to many cafes and bakeries in Singapore. However, during my visit to the cafe, they did not have them for sale (Too bad! They probably ran out of the cake due to it's popularity).

That said, I did have the privilege to try the other cakes, the Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake ($8.00) as well as their Apple Cider cake ($8.50). Both cakes were moist and really rich in flavour. The chocolate was in fact not too sweet, therefore, together with the taste of caramel, it's like the best of both worlds. The Apple Cider cake was excellent as well, you guys should definitely have a taste of their cakes because to me, they were so good beyond words.

A few days back, I visited Youmenya Goemon outlet at The Star Vista. By re-inventing the way to eat pasta, each diner was given a pair of chopsticks for the meal instead of fork and spoon.

I had their Half & Half set ($20.00*) which consists of a plate of Tomato Sauce spaghetti with Basil & Mozzarella, a plate of Cream Sauce spaghetti with Crab, Shrimp and Scallop, as well as a dessert and a bowl of Miso soup.

Thinking that the portion of the spaghetti will be quite small since there are two different plates of spaghetti in a single set, I was proven wrong. Their regular size spaghetti was comparably larger than the pasta dishes of many other shops, hence with the Half & Half set, a plate of spaghetti was just enough to fill one's stomach.

Both Cream Sauce and Tomato Sauce spaghetti tasted fine and ingredients used were fresh, neither would I have to say, value for money. Also, what I liked about the restaurant was that the food was prepared and cooked only after we have ordered them, hence they were piping hot when the waiters served them to you. The service staffs were friendly as well, which is a plus point!

Their dessert in the set (which I chose their Mango Pudding) though looks appetising, could have been better.

Overall it was a satisfying meal!

Paulaner Brauhaus at Millennia Walk has been on my list for must-go German restaurants in Singapore. Indeed, after dining there, I will definitely be dropping by their restaurant again in the near future!

Situated in Millennia Walk, they have two storeys (or rather three, but the third floor was not open for seating when I visited their restaurant). The first is a bar, whereas the second floor is a neatly decorated place for diners. The atmosphere was perfect and not to mention, quiet (apart from some people whom have to chat very loudly even though their partner was sitting directly opposite them).

Food wise; I had the Rigatoni pasta “Abruzzi” with fresh herbs sauce, tomato cubes and Parmesan cheese (S$16). Even though the pasta looks pretty normal, it was actually really tasty.

The tomato sauce was well cooked with huge chunks of fresh tomatoes. The taste of herbs did not over-power the tomato sauce and actually blended in really well together. I would say that this plate of pasta has definitely been the top few pastas (or rather, the best) which I have tried in Singapore.

Moving on, I also ordered the popular dish - Crispy pork knuckle with sauerkraut and bread dumpling. Thinking that it will be served in a whole pork knuckle like some other restaurants do, it was actually sliced down to smaller pieces. The skin was roasted to near perfection and surprisingly, the meat itself was tender and juicy (no kidding!), which I have no idea how they actually maintain the tenderness of the meat after roasting the whole knuckle.

Last but not least, I ordered a 0.5litres of MUNICH LAGER since it was Happy Hour (1 for 1 beer between 12pm-8pm on Sunday & Monday). As for the taste of the beer, it's up to you guys to find out if you hadn't try it yet!

So, if you are thinking of finding a good German restaurant in Singapore, I am guessing you know the answer now.

Saveur at Purvis Street (near Bugis) has been extremely popular for their inexpensive and good French food. Ranked with several top reviews, I was there a couple of months back but couldn't manage to get a seat in their restaurant even though it was already around 9pm.

A few days back, I visited their new outlet located at Far East Plaza, Orchard. From what I have observed, this outlet was less crowded than the Bugis one.

For Starters, I had the Saveur Pasta ($4.90), one of Saveur's signature dish. This was basically pasta tossed with chilli oil with minced pork sauce topped with some sakura ebi. The pasta was well cooked and definitely worth the price.

For Mains, I had the Duck ($10.90). It was a duck leg confit on top of mashed potato accompanied with shitake mushrooms and orange segments. Not to mention, it was absolutely amazing. The meat of the duck leg was so tender that it could be easily seperated from the leg bone.

The Foie Gras ($7.90) was a slight disappointment though.

Nonetheless, for the price you pay to enjoy such quality French cuisine, it's definitely somewhere you wouldn't want to miss!

This has been my third visit to Sho Teppan at ION Orchard. What lured me back was the sweet Sukiyaki soup stock that they have used for the steamboat.

Even though they had a variety of food choices ranging from Teppanyaki, Yaki Udon & Yakimeshi, I would pick their Sukiyaki any time.

I had the Chicken Sukiyaki set for $11.90. Each set comes with the raw meat of your choice, a salad, rice/udon and a bowl of raw egg. Based on my understanding, you should beat the egg first and cook the the raw meat fully in the soup stock, then dip the meat into the raw egg mixture. What the egg mixture does was to cool down the cooked meat while keeping it warm inside so that it will not burn your tongue if you chew on it immediately after cooking it in the boiling soup.

I would normally order the Chicken Sukiyaki as it was the cheapest meat item on the menu as I felt that it was rather affordable comparing it to other meat selections (e.g Salmon $15.90).

That said, on my latest dining experience in Sho Teppan, I merely just cooked the chicken slices for a few seconds in the hot soup (like Shabu Shabu style) and some areas might have been uncooked; as a result, I had a few rounds of terrible stomachache. Therefore, I am unable to judge if the meat or the raw egg was actually spoilt/not fresh or it was due to my negligence.

Hence, an advice for all will be to cook your raw meat a little longer to avoid what I have experienced!

Time needed:
5 minutes

What you need:
2 cups plain flour
1/3 cup fine sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
1/3 cup milk
Small cup of chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract syrup (optional)
Cling wrap/Baking paper

Steps:
Sieve the flour into a bowl (You may just pour the 2 cups of flour into the bowl if you are too lazy). Then, add in the brown sugar, followed by the fine sugar. After that, pour in the milk, melted butter and vanilla extract syrup. You may want to reduce the amount of milk slightly if you are using full cream milk.

Mix them around until it begins to form into a dough. Toss in a small cup of chocolate chips and combine them well.

Place a cling wrap or baking paper flat on a table surface, transfer your dough onto it and roll it up neatly. Place it in the refrigerator for an hour or so; either that, or you may toss it into your freezer for 20-30minutes and ta-da! Your edible chocolate chip cookie dough is completed!
